As a new year begins, I’m quite excited at being one year closer to 2010. And although 2010 marks the year of the Olympics here in my hometown of Vancouver, it also marks my expected year of graduation. Time has flown by so quickly and I have successfully managed to complete two grad courses while working full-time – a challenge I dreaded last September when I first started the program. After pages and pages of reading and assignments, my current GPA stands at 3.85/4.0 (UBC really works on a 4.33 scale). I’m quite happy about that! The major task at hand for the next three months is to get three courses over with and live to tell about it. It’s going to be a busy time full of even more reading, pondering and discussion but I’m sure the challenges will keep me on my feet.
Aside from school, I hope to get some regular sleeping hours tucked into my schedule along with some badminton and maybe some step classes again. I haven’t gone to step class since last summer and even though I don’t miss getting up early Saturday morning for class, I do miss the upbeat energies and having toned muscles. Another goal I’d like to reach this year is to gain five pounds and keep it on. Yes, I’m that skinny one that can eat more than expected and metabolize it well. Maybe a little too well! One more thing I’d love to do this year is hop on a plane and get away for several days. No month long bus tour. Exciting as Europe was, that trip definitely drained my energy and I think I’ll stick to shorter holidays rather than on-the-go lengthy holidays. It’d be nice to go somewhere different. Maybe Hong Kong and Japan if I can squeeze in the funds for that kind of trip. If not, I’ll just have to stick to a domestic journey.
In summary, these are the resolutions in the forefront of my mind: Exercise the mind and body thoroughly, sleep regularly, eat more and eat healthy, and travel. These goals are not all that new but they all call for continuous improvement, which is what I strive for.
