Cue hallelujah music! This week I finally stumbled upon the Code of Federal Regulations (this link specifically goes to the Food and Drug section) which has become my main reference. The Code contains the complete list of everything you wanted to know about what the FDA wants you to know. Now, if only each section was available with a complete PDF rather than as separate documents – it would save having to filter through duplicate pages!
Title 21 covers Food and Drugs. Sections 200-299 and 300-399 have been the most relevant since they cover product labelling, marketing and OTC monograph related information. Other Titles cover topics such as Agriculture, Public Health and Education. There is even a section on the Panama Canal and one on Indians – how PC is that? Aren’t they referred to as Native Americans now? Or has the FDA not caught up with that yet in the 2008 revision? Then again, should I really be surprised that even those who are responsible for the revisions probably don’t want to do a lot of reading because some things still don’t make sense in the Code.
